Solo RPG Challenge #2

In the game Epitaph one of the prompts which can happen asks the players to tell a moment in the character’s life from the point of view of someone close to them. It can be an interesting and insight exercise to think about your character from another perspective.

This week describe your character from the perspective of someone else. Maybe it is someone close to them, an enemy, a friend, a pet, or whatever.

I have a game of Star Trek Captain’s Log that I come back to from time to time. It is episodic and has a lot of character interaction. The ship is the USS Ruby which is captained by Captain Lucero Guerro. The ship is still in its first few missions so the crew are still getting to know each other. The Chief of Security is Lt. Sophia Winters. Here is Lt. Winters from the perspective of Captain Guerro.

Lt Winters is our Chief of Security. On paper it isn’t an obvious choice to have an idealistic Kansan as Chief of Security. It was clear she is hard working and eager to do a good job. She also is smart. Her file talks about some unorthodox tactics she has employed in the past. She is disarming, which I guess is good in a Chief of Security. On first glance you would think she was a sweet kid from nowhere’sville, but once you started to talk with her you find that she has what my grandma would call “an old sou.” My first real conversation with her was regarding the ethics of taking preemptive action. It wasn’t the kind of conversation one usually has as their first. As I’ve slowly gotten to know her I have found her to be both practical and with her head in the clouds, which makes for individual. I suspect that she will continue to have a brilliant career Star Fleet and suspect that I’ll learn as much from her and she from me.
